The Blessing

The Blessing

“We each have a miracle within us, perhaps more than one. We may not part the waters but we can do something so inspiring, so loving that it sets in motion acts of generous kindness that roll through time like music dancing on air.” Steven Charleston in Hope As Old As Fire

Born of God’s life and formed in his image we each have been given a gift of dignity, a unique quality of life giving essence.

At the hand of the world this blessing may or may not be confirmed but the truth remains that in Divine Love we are blessed to be a blessing.

Though we may be tossed and hurled on the storms of time and in the wake of our trembling world;

With a child like faith in the goodness that creates and recreates with extravagance;

that sustains the universe and breaths life into everything that exists;

and twirls the earth around the blazing sun which lights up the moon and hurls stars into the galaxies:

Will we press in to this love that gives life to the world?

To be blessed is to be beloved and to bear the gift of the one whose image is etched in our bones.

The gift is ours to receive and to share.

These beautiful words are written in awe of God’s profound creative love. They have tendered my heart over many years.

“For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
 How precious to me are your thoughts God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
 Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand.”

Psalms 139: 13-18

And Jesus?

“He took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:13

Treasuring them and us in their likeness, he confirms the blessing over our one precious sacred journey of life.

Together we can make a difference in this big beautiful world by pressing into this sacred blessing and allowing God’s love to be expressed through us in all the marvelous ways he gives life to the world.

Peering into the eyes of humanity, I feel much hope and promise in this vision for all of our lives.

I would love to hear how you have come to experience the blessing with hope and promise
